The Bunny Museum housed a collection of more than 40,000 rabbit‑themed objects and held a Guinness World Record as the largest assemblage of its kind. This singular institution was completely destroyed in the Eaton Fire, with most of its collection lost. The owners have pledged to rebuild on the same site. Donations of rabbit‑themed items began arriving from around the world within days of the disaster.
When I first visited the museum in 2019, I approached co‑owner Steve Lubanski to request permission to paint the exterior and the whimsical bunnies from his driveway. Before I began, he gave me a complimentary tour of the remarkable collection inside.
When I returned in early 2025 to paint the remnants of the museum, I was joined that day by Kara Finnstrom of KCAL News, who has chronicled the fire’s aftermath with notable care. I also had people in the neighborhood stop by, as it often happens, and chat as I painted.
