Eaton Fire Collaborative
Mission Control to Recovery
This unassuming building at 540 West Woodbury Road has a surprising past: it was once a Jet Propulsion Laboratory Mission Control facility. Today it has a greater mission, as the hub of information and services for Eaton Fire survivors.
At the Eaton Fire Collaboratory, more than 200 community groups, nonprofits, and government agencies work together under one roof to coordinate long-term recovery.
As the community’s needs changed, the Collaboratory changed with them. Over time, people went from filling out forms and doing the hard work of recovery to attending events where they met neighbors they might never have known otherwise.
When the time came to celebrate victories, milestones that would have seemed small and ordinary before the fire, residents, many of them still displaced, could come “home” to the Collaboratory and celebrate in grand style.
And when those victories felt few and far between and our hearts grew heavy, we could find emotional and mental health support there.
If you need that support, you are not alone, and you don’t have to stand alone. Reach out to the Collaboratory, your place of worship, or a qualified mental health provider. In a crisis? Call or text 988 for emotional support, or dial 211 for local resources.
