Description
Bob Lucas Memorial Library & Literacy Center on Lincoln Ave in Altadena.
The beautiful wall (seen in the right of the painting) was painted by children in nearby Franklin Elementary school in 1999. A resident in the neighborhood tried to have it removed, claiming and complaining that it lowered her property value. The great citizens of Altadena came to the children’s defense. The Pasadena Star news picked up on our efforts to keep the mural. They published our rebuttal letters. The neighbor eventually dropped her demand to remove the artwork. I’m sure her property value increased, because of, not in spite of the mural.
I often smile when I drive past the library, seeing that the mural has survived the harsh elements and an uncultured neighbor for so many years.
CarArt Series
-
- The CarArt series of watercolor paintings feature artwork completed by Keni Arts on location & in his car (his PPE [Personal Protective Equipment[). It is in keeping with physical distancing during the Covid-19/Coronavirus pandemic.
- This series currently features sites primarily in Altadena & Pasadena, CA. However, you might also see some paintings done in other parts of Southern California.
- A portion of the proceeds from the CarArt Series will go to support Samaritan’s Purse. SP goes into crisis areas around the world to provide aid in war zones, relief in natural disasters, and much more to help those in need. For example, they rushed into New York City to set up a field hospital to treat those suffering from the Coronavirus disease.
